Immerse yourself in the premiere of Dr Janaki Rangarajan’s new solo production " Unravelled", exploring the story of the iconic Goddess, Draupadi Amman, from the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. Through traditional Bharatanatyam dance and the spoken word in English, Unravelled explores the unseen layers of Draupadi. What is it about this woman that has captured the imagination of poets and writers for so many centuries.

It is based on a contemporary script written by theatre artist, V. Balakrishnan, that draws inspiration from Vyaasa Mahabharata and Indian folk traditions.

At the forefront of the new generation of Bharatanatyam dancers, Janaki Rangarajan represents the future of the ancient art form. Her refreshing approach to Bharatanatyam has won her many accolades and praise from dance lovers around the world. This is Dr Janaki’s first visit and premiere in Melbourne.

In addition to being an accomplished dancer, Janaki is a gifted dance choreographer. She has received many accolades of national and international acclaim which recognize her excellence as a performer and choreographer. As a teacher, Janaki devotes time and energy into developing a new generation of dancers who are dedicated to Bharatanatyam.
